Technician Job Description

Purpose:

The purpose of the technician is to have a highly trained and knowledgeable employee able to diagnose, inspect, repair, service and/or overhaul vehicle problems and maintenance.

Qualifications:

All technicians must be able to clearly demonstrate their physical and mental ability to perform services as well as detailed minor repair. They must conduct every aspect of their job in an ethical manner. They must have the ability to verbally explain work needed as well as understand and comprehend written instructions to/from the service advisor/manager and to work well under pressure. Also, to interpret data given to them.

All Technicians must meet or exceed the standards set by the industry trade organizations. Technicians must be ASE certified within one year of being hired. All technicians that are not certified will work with management and senior technician of the team to draw out a plan of action to get these tests completed (Master certification) within five years.

Technicians are required to have all the necessary hand tools to efficiently perform their dues. They must also have the ability and willingness to attend training classes whenever scheduled. All technicians must be able to work a minimum of 40 hours and produce a staring minimum of 35 hours per week on a regular basis.

Responsibility:

The technician’s responsibilities include but are not limited to a dedication: to Impact Automotive’s mission statement, to the company’s profitability and to maintaining 100% customer satisfaction. Also, responsible for following the company policies and procedures as outlined here, in the employee manual.

Must work well with others as a team towards a common goal. She/he will have all work checked by a service advisor/manager before turned in as completed. Must commit to continuously educate themselves through industry-recognized classes, seminars, and test in order to keep up with changes in the industry and new vehicles.

Diagnosis:

Prior to performing any diagnostic procedures, it is required that the technician has a clear understanding of the customer complaint, and that necessary permission to perform the work has been granted.

Documentation:

All diagnostic procedures, findings, recommendations, and services performed will be properly noted and documented in compliance with the procedures outlined by management.

Mechanical services:

All adjustments repair, and services will be performed in a manner as outlined in a recognized, professional publication. At no time will a minor (lesser) service be recommended when a more serious condition exists, or when the performance of a minor service may actually worsen a pre-existing condition, or cause mechanical failure.

Strength:

Needs the ability for heavy lifting of up to 120 lbs. to your shoulder’s height regularly. Holding up their body weight as you lean over the top of a vehicle.

Motion:

The ability to have full range of moon. Swinging heavy tools at shoulders height or below. Be able to climb stairs, walk, squat, crawl, kneel, lay under vehicles and drive a manual transmission vehicle.

Vision and Hearing:

Needs the ability to hear noises from the vehicle and try to pinpoint their location. The ability to see damage or broken parts.

Test drive:

All vehicles are to be road tested for the purpose of ensuring that the customer’s complaint has been alleviated. All vehicles are to be rechecked to assure the service was done in a professional manner and the vehicle is clean and ready for customer delivery.
